 Ever wondered what's worse than No Internet ?................. slow internet...right.
In the last decade we have seen different ways in which we connect to internet. But ever thought of connecting to the internet at a wooping speed of 10Gbps in your house, neighborhood or at your office ?... it was only made possible by the Li-Fi technology which promises to bring 10Gbps connection speed to you.

Li-Fi is still very much in its developing stage but it is already making alot of noise in the tech market. According to many experts the Li-Fi industry will touch $113bn by 2022 and may surpass our dear friend "The Wi-Fi". According to the reports Li-Fi is 100 times faster than Wi-Fi.

In 2014 Sisoft(mexican company) was able to transfer data at a speed of 10Gbps using light lamps i.e using lightning spectrum.

 How it Works? 


In Li-Fi the data is transmitted by modulating the intensity of light coming out of the LED buld(when current flows in it),which is then received by the  photosensitive detector, and the light signal is demodulated(or converted) into the electronic form.

In simple words, Li-Fi uses the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to transmit information at a very high speed. 
LiFi is a category of Optical Wireless Communication(OWC).OWC includes infra red and ultra violet communication as well as visible light.

Who made it?



Professor Harald Haas (University of Edinburg) is consider the person who coined the idea of Li-fi. He also co-founded a company named pureLiFi which concentrates on Li-Fi technology.

Why To Choose LiFi?


According to the tests conducted recently by many companies it is proved that LiFi is much Faster than Wifi.

Radio frequency connection(WiFi) requires many things like radio circuits,complex receivers and antennas, whereas LiFi is much simpler to implement and uses direct modulation method.

It is low cost because it requires less component than the radio technology.

LiFi is energy efficient as it requires negligible additional power supply.

Let's look at the security features, since the signal is confined to a closely defined illumination area it is really difficult to eavesdrop on LiFi signal. 

LiFi can achieve about 1000 times the data density of wifi.

Also LiFi do not emmit electromagnetic waves ,therefore can be used in the hospital in medical department and do not interfere with medical instrument(Like MRI).


It's really soon but many believe that LiFi technology if implemented  in a right manner will definitely change the way we connect to internet.
